Cycling in the footsteps of Canzi
by Orazio Gobbi

Piacenza. Leaving from the “dolmen” monument to the
Resistenza of Piacenza.

The bike-messenger anti-fascist Piacenza "Los italianos" wanted to honor the memory of the more than 40 anti-fascist volunteers from Piacenza, include among others Emilio Canzi, Artemio Agosti, Antonio Carini ...., who took part in the Spanish Civil War of 1936 / '39 . The initiative aimed to symbolically retrace the places already beaten by anti-fascist volunteers in the north-east Spain and took place from April 24 to May 1, starting from the first stage of the Basque country Guernika and arriving in Barcelona, for a path over 800 km. The group of cyclists has received solidarity and cooperation from fellow libertarians, ANPI, Historical Institute of the Resistance of Piacenza and Barcelona in particular has enjoyed the international solidarity of the Association Altraitalia.
Who wanted to read up on anti-fascist volunteers from Piacenza in Spain, we recommend reading: "Los Italianos, anti-fascists in the Spanish Civil War" by Ivano Tagliaferri and Franco Sprega, edizioni Infinito 2007.
