Chronicle of a Death Foretold

The elections of last November 20 saw a meltdown Socialist stronger than expected. And the indignados ...

the role of the indignados

The analysis of the situation in Spain can not stop the ambiguities typical of the general election. Apart from the fact, not only statistically, that the game was attended by region, 60 to 70% of those eligible, the excitement and hopes for change are following different paths. As of May 15, almost all Spanish cities have been hit by grassroots movements, the so-called indignados, which have transformed many central squares in as many arenas of genuine political debate not related to elections, but which looked far ahead. The participation of citizens in the first person has upset the habits of large sections of the population who have realized the centrality of their initiatives, mostly estranged from the logic of delegation and urns. One of the slogans used in the assemblies of thousands of participants stated: "No nos representan", pointing to the upcoming elections and empty. Was widespread rejection of the combination of fact and popular among socialists, by merging the two abbreviations: "No to PPSOE".
This new movement, spread throughout the Spanish territory, involving, with the instruments of direct democracy and peaceful, multi-million citizens disillusioned by the political leadership and finally confident in their ability to oppose the gigantic scam hidden under the convenient label of the crisis. From the huge gatherings of Plaza del Sol in Madrid or Barcelona Plaza Catalunya, neighborhood structures have emerged that have begun immediately to oppose the violent eviction of poor families, victims of the economic mechanism and the dominant legal. From such examples of self-managed struggle and solidarity against the corrupt and oppressive state power, can arise that force of change and liberation from the capitalists and bureaucrats. After all the recent elections have simply changed the label to the same party dominant system disputed by strong sectors of the Spanish people, and not just youth.
