Against fascism (and the hegemony)
by Andrea Staid

The experience of the Arditi del Popolo against the rising fascist tide in the light of the attitude of the Marxists. And with today's news.

Why talk about the Arditi del Popolo today? For several reasons, I am convinced that, unfortunately, history is written by the winners, but we can not explain it to forget that the Arditi del Popolo met today.
Secondary arisen on the initiative of Argos in the summer of 1921 with the aim of defending the working masses by the actions of the fascist squads, the Arditi del Popolo spread rapidly over almost the entire national territory.
While joining thousands of young people and workers of various political leanings, they see an effective instrument in the movement of opposition to the violence of black shirts.

They were one of the most exciting and short duration of the first anti-fascism.
It is important to talk about for various reasons, no doubt because they have fallen into the oblivion of institutional history and only since a few years have developed studies on this phenomenon so as not to forget. But that’s not enough.

This article stems from the desire to understand what lessons we can learn from such an historic event, a movement like that of the Arditi del Popolo, which has operated nearly a century ago, to see what we can "serve" the experience of the Arditi del Popolo in our daily struggles in 2010.

The article highlights a small historical parenthesis on what was the position of the anarchists against the Arditi del Popolo and the different position of the Communist Party.

Anarchists decided to support the Arditi del Popolo in both theory and took an active role while maintaining their specificity. There were no pretensions to monopolize this movement, as it were revealed between the communists. On the contrary, it was the mutual autonomy, even in the fight quota policy, to remain a cornerstone.

The boycott by the Communist Party

With the daring of the people of the anarchists could begin the journey that starts from the defeat of fascism, then it would have gone further, taking the road of social revolution without a political hegemony and respect for differences.

degli Arditi del Popolo

The Communist Party on the other hand, sure of its purpose and supported by a hopeful vision of the evolution of history, conceived not as a communist revolution when and how to establish the dictatorship of the proletariat. Then boycotted the bold action of the people, determined not to compromise with the forces that were not perfectly aligned in its thinking and its directives.
